Implants, Veneers, & Dentures: Steps to a Better Smile

how to know if you need an implant, denture, or veneer

One of the first things people notice when they meet you is your smile. A healthy, beautiful smile can not only help you function but it can truly boost your self confidence. But what are your options if you are unhappy with a way a tooth looks, or you are missing one or more teeth?

At Applewood Dental we offer a variety of services to help get you that smile that you deserve.

It is always hard to hear that a tooth is no longer savable and needs to come out. Luckily due to an increasing amount of research and technology, dental implants are now a great option to replace that missing tooth. Although the process of a dental implant can take time, it is the closest procedure we have to giving you back your tooth.

What is the process of getting an implant?

After the tooth is removed, a bone graft maybe necessary in order to provide more stability to the implant. Often time you must wait a couple months before placing the implant in order for the extraction site and bone graft to heal fully. The implant is then placed.

Once the implant is fully integrated into the bone the patient will return for the implant crown which is placed on top of an implant abutment. Perhaps the most important part of the implant is taking care of it after it is placed. The wonderful hygienists at Applewood Dental will take their time to show you how to keep your implant clean and healthy in order to protect your investment.

Veneers are a great option if you are unhappy with the way your front teeth look. A veneer covers the front portion of a tooth with a thin porcelain material and can be used if you are unhappy with the shape of your tooth, position, color/staining or size of the tooth.

What is the process of a veneer?

The Dentists at Applewood Dental will start with an exam to ensure you are a good candidate for veneers. Whitening may be recommended prior to the veneer placement in order to get the rest of your teeth to match your new bright smile.  The dentists at Applewood Dental will then conservatively remove some tooth structure and take an impression. You will leave with a temporary veneer and return for us to bond your new, beautiful, custom made, veneer. Often times a night guard may be recommended in order to protect your new smile.

If you are missing all or some of your teeth, dentures maybe a great option for you

What is the process of a denture?

The first step of the denture process is to determine what type of denture is right for you. There are many different types and different materials to choose from. For example, there are removable partial dentures made with a metal framework while others are made with a resin acrylic framework.

For some patients, a more fixed solution is ideal, and in these cases we can discuss an implant supported denture. This is a denture that clips to implants placed in your bone for better stability. We then will take a series of impressions and have you return for a couple try in appointments in order to ensure the proper fit and function of the denture. Once we are happy with the aesthetics and fit, the denture will be processed and finished.

We will then schedule you for follow up appointments to make sure you are comfortable and no further adjustments need to be made. The dentists at Applewood Dental will take their time to make sure you understand all your options and help you take the necessary steps to give you back your smile.

The team at Applewood Dental understands that implants, veneers and dentures are a big step and thus we are here to answer any questions or concerns you may have. Make an appointment today and let us answer any questions you may have!
